호랑이여! 호랑이여! 밤의 숲속에서
빛나게 불타고 있는 호랑이여!
어떤 불멸의 손 또는 눈이
그대의 무시무시한 대칭을 만들 수 있겠는가?
어떤 먼 심연 혹은 하늘에서
그대 눈의 불이 탔는가?
어떤 날개 위에 감히 그는 치솟아올라,
어떤 손으로 그대 불길을 감히 잡겠는가?
어떤 어깨 또는 어떤 기예가
그대 가슴의 힘줄을 비틀 수 있겠는가?
그대의 가슴이 고동치기 시작할 때
어떤 무서운 손 또는 무서운 발이,
어떤 망치가 또는 쇠사슬이 그 고동을 멈추는가?
그대의 머리는 어떤 용광로에, 모루에 있었는가?
어떤 무서운 포박으로
무시무시한 그대를 감히 가둘 수 있는가?
별들이 창을 내던져 버리고
그들의 논물로써 천국을 적실 때,
하느님은 자신의 작업에 미소지었던가?
양을 만든 그분이 그대를 만들었는가?

What the hammer? what the chine?
